Here is a great piece for your buying consideration.  Would make a great gift for a special occasion or keep for yourself.
A buyer recently selected this item, but then never paid for it.  So, the item is available again for your buying advantage!
This piece came from the extensive marine/nautical collection from  man's estate whom lived in NJ along the Delaware River south of Philadelphia.  We have a number of that collector's marine/nautical items that we will be listing separately for sale in our Ebay store over the next few days.  Those items include a Mermaid Ship's Figurehead (Folk Art Piece), a Ship's Telegraph and Tower, another Ritchie ship's compass and the box, a Seth Thomas Ship's Bell Clock, a Sailing Ship Model, and a 1901 Lathrop Box Fog Horn.
Great older Ritchie Compass.  The manufacturer resides in Boston, MA.  The piece probably dates to around the World War II, period but no way to be certain with what is here.  The compass probably had fluid inside the metal case at one time, that is no longer there.  Beautifully detailed compass rose face with the Ritchie emblem on it.  We do not see a serial number on this compass to be able to date it.  Some of the black enamel paint has come off the rings and hanger brackets and you can see the brass below it.  The compass does still operate without the fluid inside the unit.  The gimbal unit the compass rests in is in place and works.  The gimbal allows the compass body to stay level as a ship would be rocking away on the ocean.
The glass over the compass is intact, no cracking or blistering.  The compass face is 7-7/8" across.
Beautiful mahogany case that this compass comes in.  And the lid is still with it, which is uncommon as once they got taken off, they got put away and usually never got back on top of the compass box.  The top is three pieces, made that way, not split.   No splitting of the case on the top or sides.  Great finish still on it.  The bottom of the wood case has a split in the wood.
