Description
Up for sale is an incredibly good sounding, full range, custom made (in the late '70's) speaker cabinet. It was designed with full range keyboards of the era in mind, think Fender Rhodes and pre-DX7 synths. The cabinet is made from multi-ply Birch plywood and is covered in a Black carpet typical of audio gear of that era. It is built like a tank a weighs like one as well. The speaker's are all JBL; LF is E-140 Sn. 24330, MF is E-110 Sn. 25308 and HF is a 2402 "bullet" Sn. 11318. The X-over is from Emilar. The cabinet was updated and modified in 2009 by installing additional front to rear bracing, replacing the damping insulation with Corning 705 rigid fiberglass panels, replacing the wiring harness with silver plated copper in teflon wire and the input connector was changed to a Neutrik NL4MP "Speakon". The NL4MP is wired with the terminals +1 connected to +2 and -1 connected to -2. This makes the NL4 a 40 amp locking connector and allows the use of 4 conductor speaker cable wired as a "Star-Quad" configuration for much better fidelity and current transfer as well as increasing the efficiency of the system. It is a fairly easy mod to rewire the input to allow for Bi-Amping the system.
The X-over uses high quality air-core inductors and Metal-Film capacitors (no electrolytics). The connector panel attenuator controls the E-110 (which is in a sealed sub-enclosure that is not pictured). The 2402 is controlled by a hidden attenuator that is accessed through the top right port opening.
The cabinet dimensions are: H= 36 inches, W= 20.5 inches and D= 19.25 inches.
