WAR FIGURE, Mayan /Aztec, Handmade. Mounted on Paduke Hardwood. From S. AMERICA

$ 81.84

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: The head looks to be a resin carving, as if it was sculpted from a large block. The board that supports it is a very heavy and dense hardwood. I am uncertain as to the wood, but to my eye it appears to be Paduke. If not Paduke, it is a similar hardwood with the weight and tone of Paduke. There are some scratches in the base of the carving. It actually adds to the history and journey of this carving. Please see the many photos I have provided. The measurements can be seen in the 6th., 7th., and 8th., photos.

    Description

    This figure is handmade.  It's mounted on a very heavy and thick hardwood. It is my best guess that the wood is Paduke.  It's height of this piece is just a tiny bit under 13 inches. The width is 7 1/2 inches, and the depth is almost 9 inches.
    I have traveled to Belize and seen the Mayan ruins in person.  There are many figures carved into the limestone walls that are very similar to this one.  However, It may also be Aztec?  I'm not schooled enough in both cultures to know with certainty.
    It's a beautiful example of workmanship, and together with the wood mounting makes a wonderful compositon.
    It's very heavy so shipping is a bit more.  Shipping will be USPS., or FedEx.  I will package this piece with great care. At this time I am shipping within the lower 48 states only.
